Thank you for this opportunity to address the Ocean County Citizens for Freedom Tea Party Group. My name is Alan Bateman I am running for Congress in
First, a few comments on my background. I am married and a father of three children. I have a Bachelors degree in Mathematics and Computer Science and a Masters degree in Hospital Administration. I have worked in the healthcare industry as a consultant for the past 15 years and am currently the head of my new, upstart consulting firm focused on labor management for all industries.
During the past year and a half, we have witnessed trillion dollar deficits and a government takeover of the banking and automotive industries, cash for clunkers and of course, cap and trade. Now, the government has taken over healthcare which represents one fifth of our economy and will ultimately result in rationed care, trillion dollar deficits and increased taxes as it has in every country with socialized medicine.
All this, has resulted is government intrusion into our lives, a deepened recession, job losses in the millions, a weakened dollar and businesses afraid to expand or hire for fear of what the government will do next.
Thomas Jefferson said, "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."
A lack of leadership in Congress and from our representatives has gotten us to this point. They have no vision for
Instead, they are focused on buying votes through entitlements and funding their campaign accounts from special interests.
This has given rise to the Tea Parties and other similar organizations -- groups made up of Republicans, Democrats and Independents.
The people understand that the stakes are high. Our liberty and freedom are at stake.
We need to recommit to the Constitution. I believe that liberty, freedom and prosperity come from a strong adherence to the Constitution. We need less government, less spending, less taxes and policies that promote business. This is our only way out of this mess – a commitment to our founding principles.
We cannot count on those in Congress today.
In 2006, Republicans lost control of the house because of out of control spending and the expansion of government. The Democrats may loose control of Congress in the next election for the same reasons, out of control spending and expansion of government.
But what will the republicans do?
Their performance in the healthcare debate illustrates why incumbents need to be replaced. Sarah Palin asked the question this week in reference to the healthcare debate, “Where were the republicans?” Sure we saw a handful on the news speaking out against this bill. What we needed was all of them in our districts and in our states articulating their plan and fighting against the Democrat plan -- not looking for areas of compromise.
If elected, I will join with the few true conservatives in congress to REPEAL THIS BILL. I will work to fight against Cap and Trade, which will cost NJ 30,000 jobs, stop Card Check, repeal the tax code and promote the Fair Tax and fight against government spending that is putting us in to such debt, we may never recover and our children and grand children will have no future.
I will fight for families. I know what it is like to try and make ends meet. I understand what people are going through.
I am pro life. I’m the father of three. One of my children has Autism so I understand full well how precious life is. I also understand full well how precious and important it is to protect our freedom – without freedom, nothing is possible. You can’t protect life or anything for that matter, if you don’t have the freedom to do so.
I’ve fought for these values as Deputy Mayor of Holmdel where we kept taxes down, in fact, we had a zero percent increase by my second year in office. To this day, every dollar gets scrutinized as a result of the controls I brought to the committee, even by the democrats.
My opponent, Chris Smith has been in Congress for 30 years. Jimmy Carter was President when he was first elected. Smith has become a
Smith is a co-sponsor of Card Check which will result in companies being unionized without a private vote and subject workers to intimidation by union thugs.
These votes are in exchange for tens of thousands of dollars from labor unions and $32,500 from SEIU. This is the group that as beaten up conservatives at Tea Party rallies.
Smith has a long liberal voting record. He has voted against republican budget initiatives that would have saved billions, against drilling in ANWR, for the Pelosi light bulb bill, to raise taxes on energy producers and so on. The American Conservative Union ranked him as one of the most liberal republican in the House. He earned a “D” rating from the NRA and an “F” rating from the American Gun Owners. This is not the record of a conservative.
Ask yourself, Is this the record of someone you want representing you in Congress? He has lost his way.
We can stop this “culture of corruption.” This is why I am running – to stop an out of control government and an out of control Congress -- to protect and create opportunities for us and for our children – to represent the people.
Thank you.
