Alan Bateman has been a strong advocate of small government and individual liberty both in his activism and as an elected official. Bateman won election to the Holmdel Township Committee in 2005 by defeating entrenched incumbent Democrats. He ran a grass-roots campaign that focused on fiscal responsibility and sustainable quality-of-life for residents. He was appointed Deputy Mayor in 2007 and again in 2008.
As an elected official, Bateman has consistently applied his business and financial experience to curb spending and lower tax rates. Bateman initiated the creation of a Financial Advisory Task Force to ensure Holmdel's long term financial future. Bateman lead the fight to cut spending that resulted in no increase in taxes in 2007 and a near zero percent increase in 2008. These courageous actions came in years when the school, county and state budgets all increased.
Bateman has over 20 years experience in hospital administration and business consulting. He has worked with some of the nation’s most prestigious healthcare systems. Bateman has developed operational and management techniques that have saved these organizations millions of dollars.
Bateman holds a Masters Degree in Business and Healthcare Administration from Xavier University and a Bachelors Degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati. He is married to Denise, his wife of 22 years. They live in Holmdel with their three children where they attend St. Catharine’s Catholic Church.
